Why University Isn't For Me And Why It Might Not Be For You

This year has been a big step for me. I'm in the second year of college and there's huge amounts of pressure to get it right. Most of the people I know have a university in mind with offers, or have an apprenticeship of some sort. I don't have any sort of plan which, if you knew me, is unsurprising.

I figured that it was pointless pursuing something that I wasn't into. I'm not heavily passionate about any of my subjects. And I would estimate that, from the people that I've spoken to, roughly 80% of them aren't passionate about their subjects either. And yet they're STILL taking one or more of their subjects at uni...for THREE years might I add🙄 I didn't want to do that. Obtaining a debt of £50,000 by doing something I'm not at all excited by is such a waste of life in my opinion.

My boyfriend, Tyler has pointed out university graduates who are working in the local Tesco that he knew from school. Some of them have even done a Masters on top of their degree and yet, they haven't found their ideal job yet, unless of course, working at Tesco is their ideal job. Recently, I encountered a quote that really fired me up;

"If you don't build your dream, someone will hire you to help build theirs." - Tony Gaskins

I always overlooked the idea of creating my own business, it always seemed a bit far-fetched and everyone, including my mum and teachers, always talked about 'making yourself employable'. The idea of having a 9 to 5 office job, waiting for pay day each month and hating weekdays never appealed to me, I wanted to believe I was more than that, and I still do.

I've decided, come next Tuesday (19th of June 2018) when I finish my exams, I'm going to dive into the world of business and E-Commerce.

Thanks for reading,

Love, Sophie 🐻
